The Original Glass Company’s Slimseal Heritage Units Pass EN 1279 Parts 2 & 3

Based in Cambridgeshire, The Original Glass Company (part of the Holloseal Group) is the largest manufacturer of heritage units in the UK, with experience that spans over quarter of a century. No surprise then that they are one of the front runners when it comes to successfully achieving EN1279 Parts 2 and 3 for their Slimseal Heritage Units and the only company in the UK to have achieved a pass with krypton gas, an essential component in any heritage glazing solution.

“We’re obviously delighted that The Original Glass Company is one of only two companies in the UK to hold full accreditation to EN 1279 in our own right on low sightline units,” explains Fraser Nicol, Managing Director of The Original Glass Company. “The heritage marketplace is very niche so you don’t find many volume manufacturers in that environment because of the complexity of the products. This means there is a much larger number of lower level operators and perhaps due to the cost and administration involved in achieving accreditation means they are supplying products not fit for purpose, using materials that would never pass EN1279 and perhaps trading illegally under the requirements of the Construction Products Directive.

“We’ve been involved in some fantastic heritage projects over recent years including the £10m University of Cambridge refurbishment project which has led the way in terms of how the Construction Industry approaches upgrading historic buildings to meet modern day performance criteria.

“We have partnered with CENSolutions for nearly 15 years now and that partnership has been absolutely successful. Over the course of time we have extended our scope of certification to cover more and more products and as we are now moving more into the Architectural market, we are extending things further with EN 14449, EN 1863 and EN 14179 for laminated, heat strengthened and Heat Soaked glasses.  The team are knowledgeable friendly and on hand if we need them.  We see our partnership continuing for many years to come.”
