ERC Testing Open Day

Glass & Glazing Products Magazine: 16th May 2017.

ERC Testing, the Leigh based test house set up in 2016 to facilitate testing of window, doors and safety glass, recently opened its doors to visitors keen to get a greater understanding of the types of testing that take place and learn more about what each of the tests involve.

Mike Hackett, test laboratory manager, explained: “The open day was the perfect opportunity for us to dispel the myths about product testing. When customers are putting products in to be tested, it can be quite daunting, but we talk through each process so they have a full understanding of what is taking place with an aim to taking the stress out of the situation. We have tested a variety of doors and windows manufactured using PVC, aluminium or timber. Main tests include weather testing (air, wind & water), security testing to PAS 24: 2016, and other operation tests. Safety glass testing may include impact testing (EN 12600), fragmentation testing (EN 12150-1) and 4-point bend testing EN 1288-3). As a test house, we are a new name in the industry, but I’ve been in the fenestration industry for 30 years now so have a good understanding of products and production processes and my colleague Pete for 17 years, which definitely helps as we are able to see if from the customers’ side of things.”

Pete Fradley, test laboratory technician, continued: “The feedback we’ve received to date has been extremely positive in terms of our product knowledge and the way we communicate each process. Another huge plus for us is our location, as the laboratory is located in Leigh, Lancashire to allow easy motorway access for clients not only in the North but also based in South, together with those in Ireland & Northern Ireland. When we’re not carrying out the actual tests or writing up the reports, we spend time researching and developing what we do to ensure we are keeping up to date with any market changes. We’re pleased that ERC Testing has had a fantastic first year and we’re looking forward to building on that success and our reputation in the years to come.”

Bill Keating, managing director of ERC Testing concluded: “ERC Testing works in close cooperation with CENSolutions, ER Certification and TÜV Rheinland Nederland B.V., providing a customer oriented, comprehensive approach towards improving the quality and reliability of glass, windows and doors supplied to the UK market. By working closely together we can ensure our customers have access to everything they need in order to obtain product certification with all of the help and guidance they might need. We are delighted to say our first year has gone incredibly well. ERC Testing has completed the circle in terms of our cooperation partners and our customers are most definitely enjoying the benefit of that.”

Warwick Development tops ten with CENSolutions

Warwick Development (North West) Ltd is in its 20th year of trading – no surprise considering they are one of Liverpool’s leading premier trade frame suppliers of PVCu windows and doors.  Notwithstanding the quality products and customer service they provide, they partly accredit their longevity to some of the longstanding partnerships they have made with suppliers along the way, one of whom is CENSolutions for all of their product certification needs.

Greg Johnson, Managing Director at Warwick Development (North West) Ltd explains: “At Warwick North West we take our work seriously. We want our customers to feel confident that when choosing us as suppliers, they are in safe hands. Our windows and doors are all professionally manufactured to ensure they meet the essential accreditation criteria. As a fabricator and supplier of PVCu products it is important for us and our customers that we are correctly accredited. Third party accreditations from respected companies ensure our customers that we are competent and legitimate. Accreditations also help us to gain industry recognition for the quality of our work and the products that we use.

“We have worked with CENSolutions for over ten years now and have always been delighted with the service we have received. They are helpful, knowledgeable and easy to work with, which is everything you need from a certification provider.  We are delighted to be approaching our 20th anniversary and look forward to celebrating this milestone – with many more to look forward to in the future.”

Wayne Rogerson, Joint Managing Director of CENSolutions concludes: “Warwick Development is a great company to have on board for so many years and hopefully many more to come. They are committed to producing a wide range of quality products which is demonstrated through their achievement and attainment of their Gold CMS Mark, which covers PAS 24, as well as Secured by Design accreditations.  We wish them all the best in celebrating their 20th anniversary.”

Morley Glass makes the switch to CENSolutions for certification

2016 was a major year for Leeds based Morley Glass and Glazing. Following a £1.5m investment into new machinery and premises move, the company now stands as the UK’s largest manufacturer of integral blinds within an insulated glass unit, from its 50,000 square foot dedicated facility.

Ian Short, Managing Director of Morley Glass and Glazing, explains: “We started trading in 1998, with just four people working out of 500 square foot. Now, almost 20 years on we are proud to be the biggest and best at what we do.

“We made the switch to CENSolutions this year as we were fed up with our previous supplier. As a loyal customer of theirs for almost 18 years it became harder and harder to work with them.  We used to pay them a lot year on year and get very little back in return.  There seemed to be lots of grey areas and everything was wrapped up in red tape.  It became impossible.  Switching to CENSolutions has been like a breath of fresh air.

“Since we engaged their services we have been delighted with the service. We have implemented a number of efficiencies they have suggested and found them to be quick to respond to any queries ourselves or our customers have had and although it wasn’t a deciding factor, making the switch has even saved us money.  CENSolutions is an industry focussed certification provider and have the industry knowledge we can call upon if needed.   They have got to know us as a business really well in a short space of time and have done lots of the work behind the scenes so we haven’t had to deal with it.  They came very highly recommended and have so far ticked all the boxes in terms of the type of provider you need when it comes to certification.”

Wayne Rogerson, Joint Managing Director of CENSolutions concludes: “All too often we meet companies who have been indoctrinated into thinking that certification has to be done with one supplier. What that means is that too many companies out there in our industry are getting poor, overpriced service.  People have the misconception that certification is a headache because these poor providers make it seem that way.  Our aim is to make certification hassle free and I am delighted to hear that Morley Glass and Glazing is a happy customer.

Rob Small, Independent Consultant at CENSolutions, responsible for managing the Morley Glass and Glazing account, concludes: “They have been a fantastic company to work with and their latest investment sets them aside from their competition. Although a relatively new account, we have already established a great relationship and we are happy to be on hand for them or their customers whenever they need us.  We wish them every success and look forward to working with them in the future.”

Gintreda Joinery delighted with certification from CENSolutions

Although relatively new to the market place, Harefield based joinery company Gintreda, has already made a name for itself as a manufacturer of high quality timber windows and doors. In need of a certification provider, they decided CENSolutions, the largest supplier of quality certification in the window, door and glass industries, was the right supplier for them – and are delighted with that decision.

Sandra Gudziunaite, the Manager at Gintreda Joinery explains: “The service we have received from CENSolutions has been outstanding. From our initial chat with them we felt immediately at ease and that feeling has remained constant throughout the process.  If you don’t deal with it on a day to day basis, certification can be rather daunting and deemed a hassle, but they have helped us through the entire process working in close cooperation with ER Certification, ERC Testing and TÜV Rheinland and it’s been hassle-free – we are delighted with the result.

“We are a family run business and in many ways, we see a lot of similarities in their approach, which is one of the things we like about them. CENSolutions training well received by Trading Councils

As the largest supplier of quality certification in the window, door and glass industries, CENSolutions takes a keen interest in matters that effect not only its customers, but the industry as a whole. That’s why the company volunteered to provide training presentations on the Construction Products Regulation to various Trading Standards Regions across the UK.

Mike Gaillard, Joint Managing Director of CENSolutions explains: “One of the most common complaints from our customers when it comes to compliance is the fact that there is still an  unethical element of the marketplace that does not comply with current legislation. This is a huge frustration for them as obviously they invest time and money in ensuring they are doing everything they need to in order to produce quality products, when other companies continue to manufacture without the necessary procedures in place to prove compliance.

“In order to try and drive out this unethical element, CENSolutions has  provided a number of training presentations to Trading Councils across the UK on the Construction Products Regulation in order to  educate and raise awareness of the issues the industry faces. This issue is of great importance to CENSolutions, and my role as Chairman of the GGF Insulated Glass Manufacturers Group and a Licensed Consultant for Secured by Design helps to put us in a great position to work towards ensuring matters improve. We have included information on BS EN 1279 – for which we have provided checklists and detail on BS EN 1279, as well as information on low site units,  the sharing type test data and the rules governing it. We have also provided information on BS EN 12150 toughened glass, BS EN 14449 laminated glass, BS EN 14351 Windows and External Doorsets and PAS 24. This training is ongoing, but what we have delivered so far has been extremely well received.

“With 4-500 products in the marketplace, it is difficult for Trading Standards Officers to know what they are looking for in order to police this matter, as no information has been provided to date by the Government or any other industry Governing Bodies. CENSolutions wants to do what it can to raise standards, not just for our customers but across the industry as a whole as better working practices create  better products, which creates better reputations. We are delighted our presentations have been so well received and hope that by investing our time in this way, we can help eliminate those not meeting the current legislative standards.”
